Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!
To be quite honest, I was not expecting St. Patrick's Day to be a huge deal in Ireland. I thought it was one of those holidays that was celebrated by the rest of the world, but not so much in the "mother country." Man was I wrong!! In fact, I'm pretty sure the Irish love celebrating the day devoted to their patron saint more than they love the day celebrating the birth of Christ. Our little group decided to brave the bomb threats (actually we found out about them the next day) and headed into Northern Ireland's capital city of Belfast to celebrate! FYI: No, we were not the only ones dressed in crazy green, orange, and white memorabilia. Everyone, including the Irish, was sporting fun stuff like that, albeit Julie ad I may have been the only ones with those boas though...
The day started off with a parade at the city hall. While we never quite understood the whole theme of the parade, other than love for St. Paddy of course, we did get the idea that Willy Wonka was involved...somehow anyways.
I don't recall these particular character in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...but who doesn't love kids with green "plants" strapped to their heads?!
Oompa-Loompa's and their giant candy mushrooms!!! Hmmm....?
A random boat float!
A giant flower man on stilts!!
Cute kids on stilts dressed up like the Celts.
More cute kids on stilts...
After the parade we headed down to the pubs where, lets face it, things got a little crazy!!
A real live Irish band in a real Irish pub! No matter hoe many times I see this I still get so excited!! They even played one a my favorite songs "Dirty Old Town."
One last shot of all the girls in our group at the "Bot," a pub right next to Queen's University.
Over all, St. Paddy's Day in Ireland was a BLAST!!
